Today’s work markets are increasingly shaped by the multilingual reality. The present research offers an intercultural communication perspective on language diversity and power relations at modern work environment. Study investigates how young professionals and their foreign colleagues perceive diversity affecting in their communicative behaviours in culturally heterogeneous workplace. Tarkastelun kohteena on myös työntekijöiden henkilökohtainen suhtautuminen monikulttuuriseen viestintään ja omaan suoriutumiseen. Studies on repetition in ELF interactions have been carried out in several domains, but medical academic discourse still remains under-researched. This paper explores same-speaker repetition in a 31,153-word corpus of lectures included in the 100,135-word medical section of the 1 million-word ELFA (English as a Lingua Franca in Academic Settings) corpus. In the context of English as a global language, more and more people are learning it for the purposes of L2 to L2 communication. Criticism of global coursebooks is that they still operate within an ESL, native-speaker model. This article explores the arguments that these textbooks are culturally biased in favour of the target culture.
